VOLVO FOR FEMALE INCLUSIVITY – By CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga
Review by Rokkit
2nd
2022-08

As we enter August, international women’s month, let’s spotlight Volvo’s influential female minds. The Volvo Group has been working systematically to improve gender balance and inclusion for over a decade. As a company, we are fortunate to have some strong female leaders within our organization. They are not only professionals, but also mothers, sisters, aunts, and individuals with exceptional minds.

It was in June 2002 that Volvo made headlines. The idea of Camilla Palmertz and a small team of colleagues was presented to Hans-Olov Olsson, the president and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation. Your concept car is targeted at the professional female, made by women for women. According to Camilla Palmertz, one of the two project managers, the concept car is for everyone; women have merely been included. As she said, “if you meet a woman’s expectations, you exceed a man’s”. By the most prestigious magazine in the automotive industry, Automotive News Europe, all nine women involved in this initiative were awarded women of the year 2005.

Women form an increasingly important client base for CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga and the group. Volvo has a long tradition of studying what women want in cars. A women’s reference group was formed at Volvo in the 1980s. This group called on female staff members to test and assess new models at a very early stage of their development. At Volvo Cars Umhlanga we encourage our female staff to offer suggestions, and to speak up when they have ideas; after all, you never know who the next genius among us may be.

During the development of the XC90, the company convened a female focus group to help shape the Volvo SUV’s features and functions. Volvo is always at the forefront of gender equality, and they are always associated with positive news and views about females in the industry.

In 2021 the Volvo Group signed up to be a part of the “Women in Leadership Positions” report published by the European Round Table for Industry (ERT). This document aims to demonstrate a growing corporate culture at a wide range of European multinationals, promoting inclusion and gender equality by enhancing women’s career advancement to leadership positions. So, let’s partner up today, come in and do a deal! Gender equality starts with you.

Petrol price on the rise again, but fear not fellow South Africans because the XC40 P6 Recharge has been confirmed for the South African Market
Review by Rokkit
29th
2022-06

We know what you are thinking, yes, we already have an XC40 P8 recharge in South Africa, but Volvo is extending their electric line-up with the introduction of the XC40 P6 recharge and we at CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga wanted to be the first to let you know.

The P6 Recharge features a single electric motor driving the front wheels whereas the P8 makes use of twin electric motors driving the front and rear axles. The P6 front-wheel-drive variant delivers the power of 170kW and 330Nm torque, which offers lively performance and a 0-100km sprint of 7.4 seconds.

Whether plugging in at home or at the ever-expanding network of public charging points, the standard 11-kW onboard charger fitted to the XC40 P6 provides competitive charging capabilities for the 69kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides a useable range of 423 km.

The pricing for this vehicle has not yet officially been released, but it will offer a more affordable entry into Volvo’s EV stable of vehicles than the current R1260000 price tag of the XC40 P8. This does not mean that buyers can expect anything less than a full house of Volvo’s comfort and convenience features and their famed and innovative safety features to be included in the price. CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga will announce the arrival of the vehicle on their showroom floor the moment one becomes available to us. We are as eager as you are for this arrival.

This compact SUV, designed with a purpose for our planet, serves more than sleek looks and is in its element in the city or in the country. Explore your world in the eco-friendly Volvo XC40 P6 with zero tailpipe emissions and reap the benefits of massive fuel savings! CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga ensures you get all the information you need on the vehicles we have to offer.

THE VOLVO XC90 IS THE MOST STYLISH SUV YOU CAN BUY TODAY – CMH Volvo Cars Bryanston
Review by Rokkit
28th
2022-06

The Volvo XC90 was designed for a big and luxurious family with a three-row SUV spacious interior and style to spare. It is the biggest vehicle from the XC range that comes with a seven-seater plus a large cargo space than its smaller XC60. It has one of three available powertrains called the T5, T6 and Recharge.

What makes it unique is the four-cylinder engine that comes with the vehicle while every other vehicle in its class has a six-cylinder engine. However, Volvo has intentionally applied enough technology to make it work. Engines found on the XC90 include a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the upgraded version of the turbocharged, the supercharged version and the recharge that uses the same engine as the T6 but has an additional electric motor and battery pack. This is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that lets you drive about 18 miles on all-electric power.

It costs less than other three-row SUVs yet offers a wide range of standard safety and convenience features such as adaptive headlights, a wireless charging pad and front parking sensors. At the same time, the XC90’s distinctive exterior and cabin designs make it stand out from the rest. Whether you’re looking to make a statement or simply save a few Rands, the pull of the XC90s is hard to resist.

Volvo cars have made a noticeable improvement to the suspension and brakes on the XC90s that has uplifted the hybrid’s standing significantly. However, the XC90 is the same as it’s always been, a fully competitive luxury car crossover SUV with an unexpectedly affordable price tag. (Forbes – Michael Harley Dec 23, 2021)

If you want to experience the future now, the Volvo XC90 is the perfect car to get you ready for an all-electric life on the road (Bloomberg, African Edition May 29, 2020)

How to charge your Volvo – By CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga
Review by Rokkit
1st
2022-06

With the new electrifying line-up, now is the right time to talk about how to power your Volvo.

Volvo cars started testing out the wireless charging technology in the city of Gothenburg earlier this year. It didn’t stop there; they just introduced the XC60 T8 Recharge.

What’s the craze about the shift to hybrids you ask? Well, we all know the Volvo brand is all about environmental awareness and these vehicles are engineered so that they can reduce pollution on the planet. Luxury that cares. Volvo Recharge brings you technology, design and sustainable materials that elevate your drive. Whether you go for a Recharge pure electric or plug-in hybrid car, you can drive it without tailpipe emissions.

How to charge your car is a key part of electrified car ownership.

There are two types of electrified powertrains, both designed to accommodate a wide range of driving needs. Your two options are pure electric or plug-in – hybrid, whilst pure electric is the most powerful way to go, with less noise and no tailpipe emissions. The plug-in hybrid is less petrol and more purpose.

Where can I charge? Availability of charging plays a significant role in the daily experience of owning an electric car. At this point in time, since hybrids are new many are reliant on public charging.

When relying on short-term public charging – like at your gym or a mall – a plug-in hybrid may be a great option. Alternatively, a mild hybrid – which captures braking energy, but doesn’t need to be plugged in – could be an excellent fit.

How often you need to charge your vehicle is dependent on how frequently you use it and the range of the vehicle. Charging times also vary depending on the charging format and vehicle type. Charging times are also dependent on factors such as outdoor temperature, current battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition.

So, if you care for the planet and want a sustainable future for you and your family, visit CMH Volvo Cars Umhlanga today and test drive our electric vehicles.

The Volvo XC40 Momentum, R-Design and Inscription
Review by Rokkit
23rd
2022-05

Have you ever wondered what is the difference between the Volvo XC40 Momentum, XC40 R-Design and the XC40 Inscription?

The Volvo XC40 Momentum is focused on modern luxury essentials, which include standard safety features like traction control and stability control. It is equipped with a 9-inch infotainment system and a 12-inch instrument panel. The Momentum comes with 18-inch alloy rims and is available with the T3 and T4 petrol engines. This model is only available in Front Wheel Drive.

The Volvo XC40 R-Design, on the other hand, captures the imagination with a sporty aesthetic while keeping the integral technology features that the Momentum introduces.

The R-Design has a glossy black exterior trim, a grille designed specifically for the R-Design and matte black 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels. Inside you’ll find sport pedals, custom-made steering wheel, and a sport leather gear shift. This model is available with the T3, T4 and T5 engines. The T5 also comes with All Wheel Drive.

The Volvo XC40 Inscription is the most sophisticated XC40 with its chrome exterior detailing, unique wheels and exclusive leather seating adding absolute Scandinavian luxury. The Inscription also boasts wireless smartphone charging and a Crystal gear selector knob by Orrefors. This model is available with the T3, T4 and T5 engines; with the T5 being All Wheel Drive.

All-New Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge available to order at CMH Volvo Cars Cape Town
Review by Rokkit
22nd
2022-04

CMH Volvo Cars Cape Town sees great potential in the ability of a plug-in hybrid.

The Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge, also known as the “EV with a back-up plan” consists of a 2.0litre turbo petrol engine (offering a not-insignificant 233kW and 400Nm) that works in tandem with an 18.8kWh battery and 107kW electric motor mounted to the car’s rear axle.

Via a somewhat clumsy drive-mode selection process, the vehicle can be “locked” into a Pure mode for all-electric driving for as long as the battery holds sufficient charge or until the T8 Recharge’s driver requires more performance than is available from the e-motor. In Hybrid mode, the XC60’s sophisticated drivetrain technology dictates the most efficient way forward. The process is overseen by the impressive workings of the brand’s 8-speed Geartronic Auto Transmission.

The range-topping XC60 betrays its 2-tonne overall mass by feeling sprightly round town and notably swift off the line. The advantage of having such a relatively powerful electric motor at your disposal is that it’s much easier to maintain momentum in all-electric mode. From a well-insulated, high-spec cabin, even on occasions when petrol-powered performance is required, the transition between the two motors is impressively fluid.

The Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge can be charged via a cable from a domestic power outlet, a home charging station, a public-charging facility and at least nominally, by using your right foot in a measured way (through coasting and regenerative braking).

Order your Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge at CMH Volvo Cars Cape Town or contact us on 0214139800 for further information.

A tyre thread by CMH Volvo Cars Westrand
Review by Rokkit
20th
2022-04

While it may seem like a good idea to save money by buying second-hand tyres, the consequences can be deadly.

Every year, 33 000 car accidents are caused by faulty tyres, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

According to the law, it is illegal to drive with worn-out tyres, not only could your insurance company reject your claim should you be in an accident, but you could also seriously damage your car.

Driving with worn-out tyres can also cause your car not to grip the road surface and could cause a tyre blowout. To find out about the correct size of your Volvo tyres, send us an inquiry on www.volvocarswestrand.co.za

One of the common signs of driving with a worn-out tyre is the car vibration when driving at a high speed. This happens when the thread develops a defect that can’t be balanced.

How to make your tyres last you longer
 Do a wheel alignment.
 Avoid bad driving habits.
 Keep your tyre pressure in check.
 CMH Volvo Cars Westrand recommends a tyre rotation every 5000kms.
 Drive, accelerate and brake smoothly.
 Buy the right size tyres for your car.

Volvo Cars tests new wireless charging technology
Review by Rokkit
24th
2022-03

Volvo Cars are integrating and testing a new wireless charging technology in a live city environment together with selected partners and evaluating its potential for future electric cars.

The wireless charging test is one of many projects outlined within the strategic initiative Gothenburg Green City Zone. Under this initiative, designated areas within the city are used as live testbeds for the development of sustainable technologies. To easily align the car with the docking pad, Volvo Cars will use its 360-degree camera system. The charging station then sends energy through the recharging pad, which is picked up by a receiver unit in the car.

“Gothenburg Green City Zone lets us try exciting new technologies in a real environment and evaluate them overtime for a potential future broader introduction,” said Mats Moberg, head of Research and Development at Volvo Cars. “Testing the latest charging technologies together with selected partners is a helpful way to evaluate alternative charging options for our future cars.”

The charging stations used in the test are provided by Momentum Dynamics, a leading provider of wireless electric charging systems. The charging starts automatically when a compatible vehicle park over a charging pad embedded in the street, allowing drivers to conveniently recharge without getting out of their car.

Last year, Volvo Cars took part in launching the Gothenburg Green City Zone initiative, which aims to achieve emission-free transport by 2030. Using a real city as a testing ground will enable the company to accelerate the development of technologies and services in the areas of electrification, shared mobility, autonomous driving, connectivity, and safety.

We cannot wait to see the outcome of this testing phase. What a time to be alive and what pride one should have that they drive a Volvo.

The Volvo brand is technologically advanced and environmentally friendly. Visit our Umhlanga dealership today.

Volvo launches most powerful XC90 in South Africa
Review by Rokkit
18th
2022-03

Volvo has launched the all-new Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid in South Africa with prices starting at R1 560 100. The seven-seater SUV will be offered in two different trim levels – Inscription and R-Design.

Earlier this year Volvo also launched the electric XC40 P8 Recharge and the plug-in hybrid XC60 T8 Recharge, making the XC90 Volvo’s third electrified vehicle to be released. This falls in line with Volvo’s aim to be a fully electrified car brand by 2030.

The Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge is powered by a 2.0-litre supercharged and turbocharged petrol-hybrid engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The engine has an output of 233kW. This is then combined with an electric motor in the rear of the car that generates 107kW. This gives a total output of 340kW and 709Nm from the two powertrains combined. This makes it the most powerful XC90 Volvo has ever made.

The electric motor’s output is applied to the SUV’s rear-wheels, improving the vehicle’s performance and all-wheel drive capabilities. Acceleration is also improved, giving this XC90 a 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds.

The electric motor provides a range of 77km, which Volvo says should be more than enough for most local drivers to do their daily motoring on electric power alone. Meanwhile, combined fuel consumption for the SUV is rated at 7.2l/100km.

Pricing for the Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge is as follows:
• Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge Twin Engine AWD R-Design – R1 560 100.00
• Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge Twin Engine AWD Inscription – R1 560 600.00

This includes a 5-year/100 000km warranty, a 5-year roadside assistance plan and an 8-year/160 000km battery warranty.

Order your Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge at CMH Volvo Cars Cape Town or contact us on 0214139800 for further information.
