Technology And Safety
Review by Rokkit

2020-10

Volvo Cars is a firm believer in Technology To Support Drivers and reduce distraction.

We might think that smartphones and touchscreens in cars are a distraction behind the wheel but, Volvo Cars safety experts disagree. They believe that distraction is a fact of life, and technology should be used to support people. When used correctly, modern technology can reduce distraction, improve road safety and assist drivers in being more focused.

Technology To Support Drivers

Vehicles from the 1940’s should be safer than today’s, seeing that they don’t contain a screen, phone connectivity or even a radio. But that is not how we operate in today’s society.Volvo Cars uses technology to minimize distraction and to build some of the safest cars on the road. Active safety systems with autobrake and steer assist are designed to assist drivers if they lose concentration or are distracted for a split second.

Bliss with steer assist

The new Volvo XC40 features an advanced voice control on Volvo Cars’ new Andriod powered infotainment system, allowing drivers to control the temperature, set a destination, play music and make a phone call while keeping their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.

Technology To Support Drivers

Active safety systems such as City Safety, Run-off Road Mitigation and Oncoming Lane Mitigation with Steer Assist can act as an extra pair of eyes watching over you. If a driver is clearly distracted or intoxicated and does not respond to warning signals the car will intervene, for theirs and other road goers safety.

The Volvo pledge: By 2020, no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car or SUV. Interested in finding out more about our Technology To Support Drivers? Contact us

A look back at the Volvo V40 with CMH Volvo Cars Bryanston

Volvo V40 Front View - V40 end production
Volvo V40 Rear View - V40 end production

The Volvo V40 looks to be Volvo’s last entry in the ever-growing hatchback war. Volvo announced earlier this year that the V40 would no longer be made at the end of 2019 making the 2020 models the last to be produced by the manufacturer. Let’s look back at the V40’s history, features and where you can find one now.

History

The Volvo V40 first appeared at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It was announced that there would be 2 variations of the V40, namely the V40, and the V40 Cross Country. Both vehicles received praise from vehicle reviewers and consumers alike for its pretty looks and high level of comfort.

Features

The V40 came packed with the same safety features you would come to expect from a Volvo. City safety, leather upholstery, Hill-start assist, USB, AUX, Rain sensors and much more. The one features that did stand out at the time was city safety. City safety was an auto brake technology that assists in reducing or avoiding traffic accidents at speeds up to 30 km/h in vehicles using City Safety Generation I. Later models using City Safety Generation II can stop at 50 km/h.

Where can I find a V40?

It goes without saying that V40’s are now hard to come by. Since Volvo stopped production in late 2019, stock is extremely scarce. Good thing then that CMH Volvo Cars Bryanston still has two 2019 V40 T3 Kinetics and two 2019 V40 D3 Inscriptions on offer.

A Normal Volvo Day tends to include a morning routine of admiring the beauty known as the Compact SUV, if there are any left on a given day. As uniform as they may look due to the consistency of the design which is kept compact throughout, these vehicles are quite different in their own way.
